On October 26, 1976, he was on stage, alone, in a repertoire of rare complexity in front of "people who are passionate about music", says Kirill. Enthusiastic but demanding. We can imagine Emil both serene and tense, on the lookout for the slightest whisper, in harmony, as soon as the silence sets in, with these composers he reveres: Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, Prokofiev. Gilels knows how to lead us with elegance towards the delicious final surprise. There are interpretations so profound, so sincere and so right that they leave a lasting impression. There is no doubt that Emil Gilels' performance on that winter evening in 1976 in the prestigious Concertgebouw in Amsterdam is one of them.

    The history of these discoveries

"Some discoveries are simply musical miracles. These recordings are undoubtedly part of it. Everything reaches perfection: the intelligence of the programs, their diversity, the technical mastery and the way in which Gilels embodies each intonation, every intention, each articulation, the beauty of his touch, the power and softness of his sound truly give us the impression that we are listening to the composers themselves at the piano. How can we explain that these treasures had spent decades on shelves without anyone paying attention to them before us? The public and the international press were not mistaken: these recordings were at the top of classical sales in Europe for more than two months and received the Edison Award, the CHOC Classica, the Diapason d'Or... ."

    Frédéric D'ORIA-NICOLAS
    Musical treasure seeker

    Classica

"CHOC Award. A truly major and unique publication! Gilels' interpretations are unlike any other. Exemplary remastering. Absolutely essential."

“I can’t find words to describe how he played. I will say one thing: if he ever comes to the United States, there will be nothing for me to do here.” Arthur Rubinstein
